As most new parents come to experience, keeping a young baby visually stimulated can be a challenging task. At the same time, visual stimulation is critical for a baby since, of the five senses, vision is the least developed sense at birth and relies heavily on experience. The question is, what kind of visual input stimulates development while also capturing babies’ attention?
We are academic researchers at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley, studying visual neuroscience and infant development. Our recent work on the development of visual processing in infants have led us to identify certain 2-tone images that strongly capture the interest of infants from birth through 15 months. This motivated us to create an illustration book called Vision Baby with images that are effective in stimulating a baby’s visual system while keeping the baby entertained. We would like to share these images with you and hope they enhance your baby’s rich visual experience!
